Speech Communication Signs to Visitors in your classroom

Today I have a freebie for you that helps us communicate to visitors at our door when we are busy! I know at my schools, I am gone half the time and I get these "fun" e-mails from teachers expressing that they can never find me. So I developed these to help me. There are two signs in this freebie available. Press my blog image and it will bring you to my blog post for more info! Thanks and Enjoy!

Train Track FCD Activity

Hey everyone! I've been quiet for most of this month, but that's only because August has been extremely busy! I promised everyone a freebie today, and here it is!

This activity is perfect for preschoolers and younger students who are working on final consonant deletion. I know that most of my preschoolers love trains, so I'm sure they will be excited to use this in speech!

As you can see, the train carts have two words (and pictures) on each cart - one word without a final consonant and a similar word with a final consonant. The student must say each word correctly and include the final consonant appropriately in order to keep his/her train cart and to create the longest train!

Learn more about this activity and download it for free here: Let's Talk Speech-Language Pathology.

Describing Bubble Map

I recently wrote a post about some great finds I picked up at my local dollar store.  One of my favorite finds is this dry erase poster called "Describing:  Bubble Map."  I recently bought the Expanding Expressions Tool and thought I could modify this map for use with the EET!

Since many of us are now back at school, I created these circles with back-to-school themed vocabulary to put in the center of the map (there are 12 vocabulary words total) for describing purposes:

You can view my other dollar store purchases and download this activity on my blog page.  While you're there, let me know about your favorite Dollar Store find!

Inspirational Quote Mini-Posters

My speech room needed a little something extra.  I had a few empty spaces that needed filling.  I thought I'd make some cute mini posters to hang up, and they turned out so cute!  Each one contains a different inspirational quote on it.  Perfect for if my students or I need a little motivation.  :)

Aren't they cute?  Head on over to my blog to see how you can download them for free!!

Move Ahead Deck for Final Consonant Deletion

These decks are something I use frequently in my own therapy sessions.  Using any open ended game, including classics like Chutes and Ladders, I simply replace the spinner or die with an appropriate deck.  If there are a variety of articulation targets in a group, I would simply have each player have their own deck in front of them.  On your turn, draw a card which gives you a pictured target word (with written prompt) and the number of spaces to move.  Pictures often involve actions to encourage novel sentences when needed.

Curious to try with younger kids?  Pick up a FREEBIE, "Move Ahead Deck for Final Consonant Deletion."  This twenty card deck includes ten minimal pairs to help you address final consonant productions.  Enjoy!

Data Collection for Speech Therapy!

In case you missed it, I held a data link up party with other SLPs last month and shared my data collection methods...
This is the form I use to collect data for most of my speech & language students.  It has a place to record activities, objectives, data, and notes for each session.  I also have another version that doesn't have the little boxes in the data column if you collect more anecdotal data.

If you want to download this freebie, as well as see all of the other blogger link ups, come visit Crazy Speech World!

Quantity Word War

Quantity words can be so tricky!  Start with an introductory activity by grabbing a bag of Skittles or M&Ms and demonstrating:  none, a couple, some, a few, most, several, all.  Then move on to an introductory worksheet with pictured objects.

Once they have that down, try this variation on the  classic card game “War.” This deck provides written and picture prompts to help students understand: none, nothing, single, couple, pair, few, some, several, many, lots of, most of, all, less than and more than. By playing “War” and making constant comparisons between words, your students will grasp the subtle difference in quantity words.

Birthday Patterns

I was thinking of a simple fun way I could create a  reinforcer activity for my PK and early elementary kiddos that would not take a long time but could be something special they could do when I saw them for therapy the week of their birthday.  So I came up with this simple pattern sheet.  The fun thing about this sheet is that it has cute birthday graphics from Riefka Design and the patterns can be simply completed verbally or my kiddos could draw and color the next object in the pattern on the line.

Of course patterns are a great early math skill so this is developmentally designed for children PK age.

Enjoy and happy talking!!!
