Better Hearing & Speech Month

Happy Better Hearing & Speech Month!

This month is all about spreading the word about communication!  As a school-based SLP I find this to be a great time to educate teachers and parents about vocal hygiene, safe listening, communication disorders, and more.  I created this freebie to do just that.

It is in PowerPoint form so that you can edit the Parent Letter to fit your needs!  Enjoy!

Catch A Bug Game!

Every Spring I incorporate bugs into my therapy because most of my little ones seem to love bugs and my 5 year old is included in that bunch!  We spend lots of time outside hunting and discussing about bugs, so I decided to make a cute game for the therapy room.

Catch A Bug FREEBIE Game
There are two variations to using this activity.  Print the bug jar and bugs with numbers on card stock for durability and laminate.

I used an empty container and put construction paper around it, so kids couldn't peek inside.  I then taped the bug jar to the container and stuck the bugs inside.

Bug Craft activity
I used paperclips on the bugs, so that they would stick when the students used my magnetic fishing pole to catch bugs.  The player with the most points at the end of the session wins!!

Story Sequencing Printables

I'm always looking for motivating and fun ways to target story sequencing and story retells. During a particularly busy day, I drew a story map on a sheet of paper and my students loved it! It helped them retell the stories and understand some of the parts of a story (who, where, ending). Check out the result below:

So instead of hand drawing this each time, I made a printable and wanted to share it with all of you! I have versions for 3 and 4 events!

Earth Day Word Hunt

Happy Earth Day! Today I'm sharing a quick worksheet. I am having my articulation and language kids search for WORDS! The language students are just searching within categories (find plastic items you can recycle) around the school.

The articulation kiddos are searching for recyclable items that include their target sound.

Save the planet!

Freebie! Wagon Wheel Words For Advancing Literacy, Problem Solving & Articulation Skills

Howdy Partners! Have you been trying to advance articulation, problem solving and literacy skills with your students? If so, maybe you would like to gallop on over to our blog in order to get the link to download our freebie called Wagon Wheel Words?

Click this link to pick up the freebie! Twin Sisters Speech & Language Therapy LLC Blog

We have included worksheets that come in four difficulty levels so that you can target the articulation of sounds and also work on advancing spelling, writing, reading, naming, and problem solving with a large variety of students, all at the same time!

Students love these wagon wheel word problems! They are given the opportunity to try to figure out what word is written in a the wagon wheel by either going clockwise (on the first three levels) or going either clockwise or counter clockwise (on the fourth level). After they figure out the word, they are asked to write the word on the line and they always seem super proud of themselves when they figure them out!

Each wagon is a little problem to solve and the little Cowboys from the ages of Pre-k to 8th grade that we trialed them with at our speech clinic enjoyed solving them all! What's better than having a child advance in their language and literacy skills, as well as, in their articulation skills in one session?!

Note: If you love this freebie, you can obtain the complete packet targeting the sounds of: g, c/k, f, l, s, r, t, voiceless th, and sh by clicking on this link: Wagon Wheel Words: Spelling, Reading, Artic. & Problem Solving Skills

Best wishes!

Jelly Bean Jigglers!

I wanted to make a cute fun Easter themed game for ALL of my clients.  For reasons of versatility, I made this simple reinforcement game from graphics I found on mycutegraphics.com and microsoft PPT, laminated it and done! Now I can take it with me to all of my sessions this week.  You can use this game for any of your speech or language goals.  I am also using the colorful jelly beans to work on color identification and counting (1 to 1 correspondence) for my PK kiddos, just to embed some academic skills within our therapy.  Anyone else thinking about bringing some really jelly beans to therapy to use with this game? I know I am!!! :)

Enjoy!

Maximum Fun with Minimal Pairs s and t FREEBIE!

Using minimal pairs in artic therapy is a common evidence based approach.  Not only have I found it useful with speech production, but it’s been invaluable with those early school aged kiddos who start having difficulty with early reading writing skills due to their misarticulations.

To address both of these tasks, I’ve been creating activities that allow us to listen, say and sort, plus reinforce sound/symbol associations.  The first is a flip book project and the second is a dauber page.  Both can be completed in therapy and sent home for color and say practice.

The entire set includes r/w, l/w, f/th, b/v, s/sh, ch/sh.  Pick up your freebie for minimal pair "s" and "t" here!

Giving grammar some sparkle

Hi everyone, this AMY from Miss Thrifty SLP! I am so honored to be a new collaborator here at Speechie Freebies. Sharing things that have helped make my life a little easier with all of you is one of the best feelings in the world. I couldn't imagine a better way to celebrate becoming a Speechie Freebie collaborator than by sharing a grammar activity with just a touch of glitter.

The goal of the packet is to have students identify words based on the specific grammar target. You can have the students circle or highlight the words. Plus, there is absolutely nothing wrong with talking about the other word types they can find in each sentence. I would just use a different color for each word type that you use consistently in sessions (I use the Colorful Semantics scheme). Level one cards are simple sentences that contain fewer words. Level two cards are slightly harder.

Over the years we have all picked up a tip here or a trick there. That little piece of information that can help to nudge a student of that plateau of progress and start trending upwards towards success.  I don't know about you but sometimes I feel like there are so many tips that I forget about some of them.

So I decided to put all that information into a binder to quick reference :)  To download this freebie and read the full post with pictures check out my blog HERE.
