Back To School: All About My Summer

I don't know about you but the beginning of the year is always so hectic trying to figure out which students are on my caseload, my therapy schedule, IEPs & evaluations due right away, and complete trainings. I know I can't wait to get started with therapy and hear about my kiddos' summers! My students always love sharing what they did over the summer so I created this freebie as an interactive way for them to do so.

I hope you all have an AMAZING school year!

Back To School Grammar Challenge Cards FREE Lesson

A couple of years ago, a group of us SLP bloggers did a fun back to school blog hop!  I created these fun back to school grammar challenge cards as a FREEBIE activity.  I still use these with my students!

Back To School Grammar free blog post

These are fun to use with your upper elementary students to see how well they can create compound and complex sentences.  Each card has a picture and a "challenge" to write about the picture on the card.  A recording sheet is included.  You could totally do a pre-test, teach the concepts and then post-test them with these cards!!

Five Tips For Teachers From School Based Speech-Language Pathologist (SLPs)

Hello! Today we are providing a document for teachers that was developed just for them! It contains 5 tips that would be helpful for them to know as they begin school and start a relationship with their school based speech-language pathologists (more informally called speech therapists.)

Slide2 Slide4

We have provided handouts on common goal areas targeted in school based speech therapy services, have given reference to a great screening tool that could be printed out and used for identifying potential school speech students, and have even developed an easy to read sound acquisition chart.

Slide5

This handout would be helpful for a teacher to read in order to gain a better understanding of what Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs) in schools do.  It would also be helpful for SLPs to read and to download for reference pages that could be used for caregiver and teacher education throughout the year. You can find this document in its entirety and for FREE over at our Teachers pay Teachers, Twin Speech, Language & Literacy LLC Shop. Click HERE.  We hope you enjoy the 5 helpful tips and find them useful!

Have a wonderful school year!

Sincerely,
Manda & Shanda

What I Did/Didn't Do On My Vacation

Let's have a little fun with the traditional "what I did on my summer vacation" projects and target additional goals in the process!

Have your students create three postcards.  Two will contain a sentence or two about something they really did and one will be something they didn't do.  The postcards are then cut out and illustrated on the back.

Time to share!  Present to the class or allow students to walk desk to desk to read the choices.  For added fun, provide a dauber to "stamp" the one they think is a fake!

This is a great activity to teach exclusion and also address fiction/non-fiction especially for our students who may have more difficulty separating the two.

Enjoy the last of summer!

Freebie Back to School Attendance Calendar!

It's back to school time for me and most likely all of you as well.
I am posting a quick freebie because I just went back to school today!

I use this attendance calendar every year and I thought I would offer it to you for free!  I honestly had a hard time keeping up with keeping track before we had an online system. So my students come into their session and automatically know to grab a marker and circle the date. It is a way to validate my medical billing as well Just in case I miss a day, I can double check their attendance with mine.

It also really helps them learn the days of the week! Enjoy and have a great school year!

Sweet as Candy

Hey everyone! It's Miss Thrifty SLP with a sweet new syntax activity that your students are sure to love. After all, who can resist candy? I know that I certainly can't.

Word Collector is designed to be used in several ways to target syntax goals. At the beginning of the new school year, it makes a really fun parts of speech sorting game. You can reuse it later to practice sentence formulation.

If you want to learn more about this activity and grab your free copy, head on over to my blog by clicking on the picture below.

Back to School Behavior Board Game

When school starts, sometimes our kids need a refresher, or in some cases and introduction, on what is 'okay' for school and what is not.  I just revamped this freebie for the new school year to cover this tricky topic.
